Garth skydive transcript

This transcription has been slightly altered to allow for people talking at the same time and other difficulties in transcribing the recording word for word.

Setting the scene.
There are 5 parachute instructors sitting on the plane with their tandem jumpers strapped to the front of them. They are all sitting on the floor of the plane huddled together like a pack of sardines.

The audio begins.
A loud vibrating sound is heard of the twin engines while the plane is in flight at twelve thousand feet.
A female shouts: "Go Tarhnee!"
A male shouts: "Go Tarhnee!"
Garth shouts: "Go Tarhnee!"
Another female shouts: "Go Tarhnee!"
Then a sound of rushing wind is heard as Tarhnee and instructor exit the plane.
A female shouts: "Woohoo!"
Garth: "Ones gone."
A female shouts: "Go Siena!"
Then another sound of rushing wind.
A few seconds later, a third sound of rushing wind.
A female shouts: "Go Garth!" as Garth and instructor exit the plane.
Garth and his instructor are now free falling through the air at around two hundred and twenty kilometres an hour.
The sound of the wind as they are falling is so loud, that the recording is distorted and the speakers are vibrating.
In the background of the wind noise, you can hear Garth scream: "Oh yeah!"
Garth and the instructor free fall for around forty seconds, then the sound of the parachute being deployed can be heard. The wind noise is gone and you can clearly hear Garth shout:
"Holy! That was awesome!"
as instructor shouts: "Woohoo!"
Garth: "That was so good!"
The instructor giggles.
Instructor: "Well done Garth!"
Garth: "That did not feel anything like I expected it too!"
Instructor: "Don't expect anything, expect the unexpected my friend!"
Instructor laughs.
Instructor: "I love my job! You did absolutely perfect!"
You can hear the smile in Garth's voice as he says: "That was so cool!"
Instructor: "Hey Garth, let go here."
Garth: "Yeah..."
Instructor: "If you do want to hold, we have a strap here and a strap here."
Garth: "Okay."
Instructor: "There you So what I am gonna do now, you're user firmly attached. You've got four clips on."
Garth: "Yep."
Instructor: "So What I’m gonna do, is loosen off the bottom clips, okay?
Garth: "Okay."
Instructor: "It feels like your gonna drop down but you're firmly attached alright..."
Garth: "Yep."
Instructor: "3 2 1! Here we go!"
Garth: "All right!"
Instructor: "How do your ears feel? Do you have any pressure?"
Garth: Yeah; no; not too bad."
Instructor: "Perfect!"
Garth: "I can't believe we just fell seven thousand feet."
Instructor: "It's wild."
Garth as he laughs: "It's so cool!"
Instructor: "What I’m doing now, is I’m just about to pop the brakes on the parachute."
Garth: "Okay."
Instructor: "You'll feel a bit of a movement... Here we go!"
Garth: "Ah yeah! Wow!" You hear the wind slow down.
Instructor: "That's it!"
There is a few seconds of the soft wind and you can hear the flapping of the parachute.
Instructor: "Now what I'm going to get you to do Garth..."
Garth: "Yep."
Instructor: "Feel my hands here? I’ve got the toggles in my hands."
Garth: "Yep okay."
Garth: "That's it."
Instructor: "Perfect. What we’re going to do, is, we’re going to pull on the right one. You're going to feel us pick up speed."
Garth: "Ah yeah."
Instructor: "We're going to fly over towards the beach a little bit more. We're heading towards the beach right now. We're just over the land."
Garth: "Oh my god!"
Instructor: "Pretty surreal hah!"
Both Laughing.
Instructor: "You did awesome buddy! What we’re gonna do now, we're gonna do left hand turn, and this time, we’re going to pull it even further down. Okay? So you’re going to feel us pick up more speed."
Garth: "Ooh ooh yeah!"
Garth and instructor both laughing.
A few words are spoken but the sound of the parachute distorts what is being heard.
Instructor: "Now we’re going to pull them both down together."
Garth: "Oh..."
Instructor: "That's how we land the parachute."
Garth: "Ah okay."
Instructor: "We just flared it! So we’ll do it again. Pull the left one down, pick up speed, as we come around. Left one up, now both down together."
Garth grunts.
Instructor: "Beautiful buddy! So what we’re going to do now, is we are going to practice our landing."
Garth: "Okay! Yep, no worries."
Instructor: "So lift up your knees and get your legs in front of you so we slide a little bit and there we go. I'm gonna help you like that as well."
Garth: "Okay."
Instructor: "Beautiful buddy! So we’re just doing a turn. We're about a thousand foot off the ground. Now about three hundred meters. I'm setting up for my landing patten now."
Garth: "Okay."
Instructor: "Just like an airplane landing down wind, I'm about to do own downown wind. Turn very soon, here we go! We're at four hundred and eighty feet now."
You can now hear the sound of the parachute flapping very loudly, as the instructor flares the parachute by pulling down on both the toggles for landing.
During this sound instructor says:
"Hereear the cross wind? Legs up for me."
As the parachute lands, Instructor says: "Flaring, and you are on the beach now my friend!"
Both laughing.
Instructor: "I'll just give you a hand up. Happy days my friend!"
Garth: "Yeah! Thank you Sam!"
Instructor: "No worries."
End of audio recording.
