It was terrific catching-up with Jenny and her dog guide Elvis during the week. This photograph was taken at Garden City Shopping Centre's bus interchange, where Jenny and Elvis awaited their homeward-bound bus. Similarly to Jenny, many people who are blind are independent public transport commuters just like everyone else in society. In fact, many people who are blind are also techno savvy, applying a variety of skills around transport technology Apps, such as Movit and NextThere. Jenny is indeed one of those savvy travellers. One of the features on bus station platforms assisting commuters are timetable announcement buttons, as with the photograph displayed in this blog. Sadly, not everyone in society respects public property and the important role this plays in assisting people around helpful knowledge gathering. Whilst this example looks intact, no announcement occurred when the button was pushed. Furthermore, an adjacent bus stop timetable announcer had actually been vandalised, including removal of the announcement button. This sort of public behaviour is disgraceful, causing additional repair costs and major inconveniences for commuters. Forward Steps Mobility loves the opportunity to assist people on their journey to independence, including public transport travel. If you or someone you know requires assistance around independent public transport, please feel free to contact us for services. We'd love to help!
